JIMMY OHIO
BASIC BLACK Who says you cant judge a book by its cover? Jimmy Ohios first EP, Basic Black, is also a fitting description of the raw, bluesy rock n roll found therein. In 2009, the Brooklynite singer-songwriter flew back to his one-time home of Detroit and holed up in a former Baptist church with his pals, Dan Kroha (The Gories, Demolition Doll Rods) on guitar and Trevor Naud (Zoos of Berlin, PAS/CAL) on drums for four days of electrified recording sessions. Back in Brooklyn, Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu) added bass. The five songs that emerged each paint heartbreak with a slightly different brush. From the bristling energy of, Hello and Goodbye, to the delicate reflection of Quiet Sound the timeless tracks will leave you wanting more. - 3hive.com Jimmy Ohio has forged his own style, although in spirit this might recall contemporary artists such as Akron, Ohio's Black Keys or Richard Swift...The simplicity of the compositions, love of rock'n'roll, and pure passion poured into the singing often give the music a classic feel... Basic Black in size 10 is a necessary addition to your collection. - Skyscraper Magazine
